When I was asked to review this book, I discovered that a whole list of people had declined the opportunity without even bothering to see the book's cover -- the title was sufficiently off-putting. Certainly having a jaw-breaking 5-letter acronym in the title, together with a string of heavy nouns that threaten the prospective reader with yet another crack-brained all-encompassing method (like a 21st century patent medicine) was not encouraging.
Happily, of course, I did bother to look the book up first, and quickly discovered that this was something altogether better-researched than the expected wild mixture of unsubstantiated claims. Lavi and Kudish have been working on and with their method since 1980, initially in the aerospace industry but with a substantial backing in research. That both David Harel (inventor of the State Chart) and Mike Mannion (a pioneer of software engineering for product lines) liked the book enough to write cover blurbs was a futher clue.
