This superb guide -- genuinely the right size for the pocket of your waterproofs -- has been my constant companion when travelling in Europe (and Britain) for the last thirty years. The latest edition is better in every way: the beautiful plates have been repainted to be both more accurate and easier to use when identifying an unknown bird; the text is clearer, more detailed, and has been brought up to date (nature is constantly changing). The text seems impossible to fault: even the rarest species and plumages are precisely described. Every birdwatcher, serious or casual, should have a copy.
